Tristan Massa brings a multidisciplinary perspective to his role as a Project Engineer at Champion FiberglassⓇ, where he oversees new operations and drives innovation with engineering design work. A Mechatronics Engineer from Texas A&M University with a background spanning mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines, he is focused on challenging projects and growing into a leadership role.
Tell us about your role at Champion Fiberglass®. When did you start?

I am a Project Engineer at Champion Fiberglass, and I started in December 2025. In this role, I oversee new operations to ensure they are properly designed, fabricated, and installed. I work closely with contractors throughout the process to confirm requirements are met and installations are executed correctly. In addition, I focus on engineering design work, including refining existing parts and assemblies and developing new assemblies to support operational improvements and ongoing innovation efforts.
Tell us about your background.
I am a mechatronics engineer from Texas A&M University with a multidisciplinary background in mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. I also hold a master’s degree with a focus on mechanical and manufacturing design, as well as project management. During my academic career, I was a member of the Formula SAE Electric Vehicle (FSAE EV) team, where I designed and manufactured the mechanical and electrical aspects of the cooling system for the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 vehicles.
In addition to my academic work, I served as a teaching assistant for both a fluid mechanics lab and a mechanical applications lab. Professionally, I have worked at a startup as an R&D mechanical engineer in the HVAC industry, where I took on responsibilities across mechanical, electrical, software, and chemical engineering disciplines.
What attracted you to the role at Champion Fiberglass?
What initially attracted me to Champion Fiberglass was the strong growth potential – both for my own career and for the company itself. I saw clear plans for future projects and expansion, and I wanted to be part of that momentum. Having worked on-site for six months prior to joining full-time, I experienced firsthand the collaborative environment and the hands-on engineering challenges. It became clear that I could do work I genuinely enjoy while continuing to grow professionally.
How do you spend your time when not working?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time at home with my two dogs and my soon-to-be wife. In my free time, I like designing and building personal invention projects, 3D printing, playing tennis, and working on my project car.
Tell us something people might not know about you.
In college, I used to box and fought in about three fights, before I got injured and had to get surgery on my shoulder.
What are you excited about personally and/or professionally for the upcoming year?
Personally, I’m excited about getting married and buying a home as I begin the next chapter of my life. Professionally, I’m looking forward to taking on challenging and innovative projects that push my engineering skills while continuing to grow into a leadership and management role.
