Challenge
Few industrial settings are as harsh, corrosive, and constantly damp as wastewater treatment facilities. When Wasa Electrical Service was contracted to build Honolulu’s newest wastewater treatment plant, the contractor sought out electrical conduit that could withstand extreme temperatures, harsh chemical corrosion, and UV damage. With 20,000 feet of land and ocean pipe, only the most durable electrical conduit could protect internal and exterior plant infrastructure and ensure long-term plant durability.
Solution
Wasa Electrical Service ran an extensive evaluation of conduit options, factoring costs, product material, and installation times. During the evaluation, the Wasa team discovered that fiberglass conduit was not only durable, corrosion- and UVresistant, and able to withstand harsh chemicals, the lightweight material made installation much more efficient compared to steel and PVC. These advantages allowed them to minimize labor costs and meet the budget of the large project.
Results

To encourage a seamless process and keep the project on schedule, Champion Fiberglass hosted an installation training session featuring best practices for the Wasa team. Wasa completed much of their work at heights exceeding 2,000 feet, so the easy handling of lightweight fiberglass conduit and elbows with minimal cutting and no threading streamlined installation.
