About Fishco Group

Fishco Group is a St. Louis-based rep agency that represents Champion Fiberglass® in eastern Missouri and central and southern Illinois. The company began in 1998 to provide collaboration and expertise to target markets in commercial, industrial (power plants and refineries) and residential construction.

Partnership

Principal Tom Fisher says a key tenet of the company has been to associate with great manufacturers. Champion Fiberglass is a part of that mix, and Fishco Group has represented the company since 2010.

In the beginning, the two companies collaborated with a focus on elbows. “When we launched Champion Fiberglass in 2010, we visited many contractors to introduce elbows. That’s where we began to build a solid base of business,” says Tom Fisher.

More recently, the two companies have partnered for contractor lunches with parking lot demonstrations and engineering firm lunch and learns where they explain the benefits of fiberglass conduit over the competition. Fisher elaborates, “Champion Fiberglass does hands-on well. They are generous with sample packs and leave behind materials, so that contractors can try the product on a job.” And he’s observed how appreciative the contractors are that Fishco Group and Champion Fiberglass are willing to get their hands dirty to explain installation.

Additionally, Fisher reports that there is a lot of trust between Fishco Group and Champion Fiberglass. He also appreciates the responsiveness and the attentiveness of the inside team including David Szyska.

Project Wins

Project successes include an oil and gas refinery along the Mississippi River. For this project, electrical conduit was needed on a river dock. There was much floating debris banging into it the dock so a strong, impact-resistant conduit was needed as well as an electrical conduit that could stand up to corrosion. Champion Duct® Heavy Wall conduit fit the bill with strength and corrosion protection.

Fishco Group has also enjoyed success in utility projects. For these power construction projects, the agency succeeded by outworking the competition. For example, they demonstrated the ease of fiberglass conduit installation at the jobsite. “Response has been positive with people always appreciative for the demonstration,” says Fisher.

Conclusion

When Tom Fisher was in town for ChampCamp last fall, he enjoyed the opportunity to meet the Champion Fiberglass team loading the truck for an order placed back home in the territory. He adds,”‘It was great to say thank you to the team and see the collaboration that went into the order.”

National Sales Manager Scott Patchan says, “Tom and the Fishco Group team have been strategic about selling fiberglass conduit and the results are showing. We’re glad to have them as a part of our rep team.”
