He’s got a diverse background in engineering, is new to Texas, and can juggle. Meet Blake Rogers.

Research and Development Engineer Blake Rogers

Tell us about your role at Champion Fiberglass.

I am a Research and Development Engineer at Champion Fiberglass. I design new products and the manufacturing equipment needed to create them. I also develop solutions that reduce production costs of current and future products.

Tell us about your background.

I completed my PhD in Applied Physics and Materials Science at Northern Arizona University with an emphasis in materials characterization using electron diffraction. I also obtained a Master of Engineering degree and a Bachelor of Science and Engineering degree from Arizona State University. My studies have primarily centered around crystallization and grain development of bulk alloys and multi-metallic nanomaterials.

My work history is diverse, including reactor engineering for Ambercycle, advanced metrology for Intel, and thermal solar panel development for Zero Mass Labs. I have also done a lot of side hustles as a welder, handyman, and computer specialist.

As a kid I was always taking things at home apart to see how they worked, and because I was able to put them back together no one ever stopped me. Now I can leverage the knowledge and skills that I have learned and developed to create impactful products and improvements for Champion Fiberglass.

What attracted you to the role at Champion Fiberglass?

Having previously worked for both large corporations and small startups, I was familiar with the challenges and benefits of both environments. Champion Fiberglass has the best of both worlds. It is a well-established company with an excellent product line, remains dedicated to innovation and improvement, and has the flexibility to move quickly and efficiently when a discovery is made.

How do you spend your time when not working?

I love to spend time with my wife and our two daughters. We enjoy watching our girls as they discover the world. I enjoy being outdoors, hiking, camping, and mountain biking. I also like to play ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, and just about any other sport. Outside of work, my passion for new discoveries continues as I enjoy creating new and delicious food. I am excited to continue this exploration in the culinary capital of Houston.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

I can juggle.

What are you most excited about for 2024, personally or professionally?

I’m excited to explore Texas with my family and see the amazing progress in my daughters as they grow. I am also looking forward to creating a research and development laboratory at Champion Fiberglass and expanding our R&D team.
