Champion Fiberglass Team Spotlight: VP of Sales & Marketing Scott Patchan

Tell us about your role at Champion Fiberglass.

I serve as VP of Sales & Marketing responsible for managing territories and representation in the central U.S. and Canada.

How many years have you been with Champion Fiberglass? Tell us about your background.

I’ve been with Champion Fiberglass for eight and a half years. I’ve spent over 25 years in the construction, manufacturing, and distribution industries.

Most recently, I served as general manager at Unistrut Construction–Specialty Contracting, a unit of Unistrut International Company and one of the Atkore International brands. Prior to that, I was national sales manager for the Fiberglass Strut & Support Systems of T.J Cope.

I also I worked in sales and marketing at Robroy Industries, developing specialty products and programs as well as managing agency relationships within the cable tray market. I attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and College of Allegheny County.

Please comment about the electrical conduit market and the role of Champion Fiberglass in it.

It’s interesting to see the changes based on where Champion Fiberglass is in the market now versus when I joined the company. Fiberglass conduit really wasn’t recognized or known, and engineers hardly wanted to meet to discuss the products, features and benefits.

Now, eight years later, it has completely changed. Fiberglass is now the preferred choice for electrical conduit. It’s very rewarding to be a part of what Champion Fiberglass is accomplishing in the electrical conduit market with important projects like Pittsburgh’s 7th Street Bridge and Hoover Dam. To witness the growth from thoughtful planning and execution is a tremendous feeling.

What do you enjoy about working at Champion Fiberglass? Can you say something about the company mission, values and culture?

Champion Fiberglass is a fantastic place to work. The product is solid and so is the team. The company is positioned to have a substantial impact and future in the electrical market. It’s great to be a part of the Champion Fiberglass family.

How do you spend your time when not working?

I enjoy weight training, customizing my truck, watching Pittsburgh Steeler football and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

There are a lot of football players in my family. My brother was a third-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1988. My nephew, Matt, played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and my other nephew, Scott, currently plays football for the University of Miami Hurricanes.

Years ago I was a competitive bodybuilder and won the Mr. Pittsburgh and Mr. Pennsylvania titles, as well as the West Virginia Cup and Northcoast championship bodybuilding titles.

As for my Hollywood connections, my cousin Zachary Quinto is a Hollywood actor. And I attended grade school with Demi Moore, whose real name is Demi Guynes.
