U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady at Champion FiberglassSPRING—On Thursday, Aug. 6, U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) met with the leadership and employees of Champion Fiberglass, a high-volume manufacturer and supplier of fiberglass conduit, in Spring, Texas, for a goodwill visit that spurred the conversation about small business and lowering taxes.

Brady, whose 8th Congressional District encompasses Champion’s headquarters and manufacturing plant, spent more than an hour on a facilities tour with the company’s owner and president, Goran Haag. During the visit, Brady, an advocate of small business, learned more about the products Champion makes and saw the manufacturing process first hand.

“We’re delighted to have Congressman Brady as our guest and appreciate his advocacy for small business,” said Haag.

Brady, who is the vice chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, a bicameral panel that reviews economic conditions and recommends policy changes in Washington D.C., is an outspoken advocate against outsourcing. He was thrilled to learn that Champion doesn’t outsource any of its manufacturing process to foreign countries and was especially impressed with the steel molds used for Champion’s compression molding process. Like more and more U.S. companies, Champion has found it can manufacture its products at a lower cost and much faster compared to sourcing them from China—also allowing Champion to have full control of quality.

U.S. Congressman Kevin BradyTowards the end of his visit, Brady, who is also a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, discussed his initiatives to lower both corporate and individual taxes. On his official site, Brady is quoted as saying, “We need a simpler, fairer tax code that protects taxpayers, not special interests—and helps America compete and win.”

Brady’s visit ended with Champion employees having an opportunity to speak directly with the congressman. Some employees also had the opportunity to pose for pictures with Brady.
