Engineering Assistant Andrea Velasco

Tell us about your role at Champion Fiberglass. When did you start?

I joined Champion Fiberglass as an Engineering Assistant in November 2024. My role primarily involves preparing sales and engineering drawings of our standard products. In time I will also serve in the development process for prototype products, maintain equipment inventory, and make programs to assist with production needs.

Tell us about your background.

I was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and raised in Northern California. I received a BA degree in Interior Architectural Design from Sacramento State University. Afterward, I briefly worked for a lighting design firm before moving to Texas in 2013 to be closer to family and seek new opportunities. I pivoted and joined the telecommunications industry drafting voice data and security plans for over a decade.

What attracted you to the role at Champion Fiberglass?

Right away, I was intrigued by the American-made innovation of Champion Fiberglass products and the proximity to home. Upon my first visit, the inviting family environment and dedication to growth was apparent and compelling.

How do you spend your time when not working?

On my time off I love to work on DIY and home improvement projects. The largest project I have taken on was designing and building my own custom walk-in closet from the ground up using my table saw and power tools. I am also fond of thrifting and finding vintage pieces to cherish and restore. On weekends, I enjoy attending live concerts, NFL games, and exploring the great outdoors with family and friends. I am grateful for all opportunities to travel to new places, try new food, sightsee, and engage in moments of downtime and rest.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

For seven years, I volunteered on the Ticket Services Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where I enjoyed rodeo culture while helping ADA patrons. I am also a member of the Traveling Texans — I have attended 20 away games across the country to cheer on the Houston Texans. The ultimate goal is to visit all 30 NFL stadiums, see all 32 teams, and hopefully attend a few international games one day.

What are you most excited about for 2025, personally and/or professionally?

I am looking forward to learning and growing professionally with an exceptional company and team.
